Binge Short Reels App What to Know First

Basic Questions

A single simple model underpins short drama apps. What you watch are very short vertical episodes. The first few are free. Later ones take coins or a pass. Most confusion traces back to that split. Begin with the five answers below.

What exactly is a short drama app?

It streams vertical video that is built for phones. Many short episodes make up each series. ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama are the leaders. Plots lean toward billionaires, revenge and identity reveals. Werewolf romances are popular too. The format started in China as duanju.

How long does an episode last?

Most episodes last one to two minutes. Western productions often target 60 to 100 seconds. There are usually 20 to shorts reels 100 episodes in a series. Married at First Sight has 90 in ReelShort’s listing. Its hit Double Life series lists 60. A full series can be as long as a movie.

Why do episodes end on cliffhangers?

Free episodes usually end at that point. The first 5 to 15 are usually free, according to ReelShort. Industry reporting cites 8 to 10. The paywall tends to fall at peak tension. The business model rests on that timing. It is also a top viewer complaint.

Which companies own ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?

Crazy Maple Studio in Sunnyvale, California is behind ReelShort. Backing that studio is China’s COL Group. DramaBox is operated by Singapore’s StoryMatrix, part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. Holywater makes My Drama and was founded in Kyiv in 2020. Fox Entertainment picked up an equity stake in October 2025. ReelShort launched in 2022, DramaBox in 2023.

Is it possible to watch in a browser or on TV?

Yes, with limits. My Drama runs a dedicated Apple TV app. No verified ReelShort TV app turned up in our search. Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins all work on ReelShort’s website. Progress syncs to and from the app. Free unlocks are possible only in the app.

What It Costs

Money questions get asked most. The prices below are from the US App Store as of September 2026. Country, platform and promotion all affect them. Take every number as approximate. Always check the pricing screen first. This is what the listings show.

Is ReelShort actually free?

Partly, and the free portion is real. The catch is what people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” are after. There is no charge for the download. The opening episodes are free. Coins or a VIP pass unlock the later ones. Ads and check-ins earn free coins.

How do coins work?

Coins act as the currency that unlocks episodes. An episode costs roughly 60 coins, says ReelShort’s blog. Its smallest pack gives 500 coins for about $4.99. Larger packs tack on extra coins. One rewarded ad unlocks two episodes. A 7-day check-in streak brings 100+ coins.

Can coins expire?

It depends on the app. According to ReelShort, free reward coins usually expire. The coins you paid for do not expire. My Drama handles coins differently. Under its terms, coins are forfeited after 12 months of inactivity. Spend reward coins first, and stay active.

How much is a weekly pass?

In the US, the common price is roughly $19.99 a week. You will see it listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. A few apps show cheaper tiers. ShortMax lists $9.99, while GoodShort starts near $5.99. Each of these passes renews automatically. Four weeks you forget about cost four times as much.

Do apps offer monthly or yearly plans?

Some apps sell them. According to ReelShort’s blog, a yearly plan costs roughly $199.99. Its monthly price varies between pages. So that figure remains unconfirmed. Roughly $36.99 a month is what DramaWave lists. Only weekly passes show up for ShortMax in the US.

Can I watch without paying?

Yes, if you have patience. Each series’ free first episodes are the place to start. Use rewarded ads to unlock more. Keep up a daily check-in streak. ReelShort also has official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. All four combined go furthest.

Subscriptions and How to Cancel

A weekly pass renews until you stop it. Plenty of people are surprised by that. Once you know where, cancelling is quick. How you paid determines where you cancel. Store purchases are cancelled through the store. Each company handles purchases made on its website.

Does deleting the app cancel the subscription?

No, and this error is common. Apple says deleting an app does not end its subscription. Google says the same of uninstalling. That warning is repeated in My Drama’s terms. Your pass keeps renewing until you cancel it. Always cancel, then delete.

How can I cancel on iPhone?

Open the Settings app first. At the top, tap your name. Then tap Subscriptions. Choose the drama app. Tap Cancel and confirm the cancellation. To be safe, act a day before renewal.

How do I cancel on an Android phone?

First, open the Google Play Store app. Then go to your Subscriptions list. Pick the drama app there. Tap Cancel and work through the prompts. Remember that uninstalling does not cancel anything. Look at the list again to confirm the change.

Can I cancel within the app?

Sometimes, though the store path is safer. ShortMax’s terms mention an in-app option under About Subscription. Those terms send store buyers to App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google control only what they billed. Anyone who bought on the website should contact the company. Screenshot every cancellation.

Why did I get charged after a free trial?

The way trials are worded can confuse. ShortMax’s developer acknowledges that its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels puzzled people. Passes renew 24 hours before expiry, its terms say. The renewal comes at the same price. Cancel one day before any trial ends. Then check the store shows it cancelled.

Refunds

Who took your money determines how refunds work. Google handles Play charges. App Store charges are handled by Apple. Companies handle website charges. No route promises a refund. This table shows every path.

Where you paid Cancelling Refund route Watch out for
iPhone (App Store) Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel The Report a Problem page from Apple Deleting the app does not cancel it
Android (Google Play) Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel Google within 48 hours, later the developer Uninstalling won’t cancel
Website The app company’s account or support The app company only Often non-refundable, per My Drama’s terms

How do I get an Apple refund?

Start at Apple’s Report a Problem page. Log in using the Apple ID that paid. Select the charge and give a brief explanation. Apple usually answers within 24 to 48 hours. It is Apple that decides, not the app developer. Also cancel the pass, or it renews.

How do refunds work on Google Play?

Timing is the biggest factor here. According to Google, you may get a refund within 48 hours of buying. Ask for it directly through Google Play. Contact the developer once that window has passed. ReelShort users are directed to Profile, then Feedback. If a renewal surprises you, act fast.

What about buying on the website?

Those are handled by the app company. Apple and Google can’t step in there. Web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires, My Drama’s terms say. EU and UK users get a 14-day withdrawal right under its terms. Other companies set their rules for themselves. Check the terms before paying online.

Can I refund unused coins?

Usually not, as the terms say. My Drama’s terms treat coin purchases as final. Unless its own fault makes a product unusable, ShortMax refuses refunds. With accidental buys, a store request may help. Buy the smallest pack until a series grabs you. Then mistakes cost you less.

Safety and Copycat Apps

Confusion over names is everywhere here. Misspellings lead to minor unrelated apps. A few downloads are not safe. Certain sites imitate big brands. Your money is protected by using real names. The answers below sort real from fake.

Is there an app called Real Short?

No, not as far as we could find. Real Short is just a misspelling of ReelShort. That applies to “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and probably “shot shorts” too. The real name is one word, not two. On the App Store, its seller is New Leaf Publishing. Before downloading, check that.

What are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV, exactly?

These are small, unrelated apps. ReelBox, found through “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, counts 50K+ Android installs. It has nothing to do with ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, often typed “daily short”, shows 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an Android TV app with 10K+ installs. Most people searching probably mean GoodShort.

Are ShortTV and ShortMax the same?

Very likely, but unconfirmed. The legal entity behind ShortMax is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Visitors to its website are redirected to ShortTV’s site. Both went live in September 2023. We saw no official rename announcement. Searching “short tv” or “short max” also brings up unrelated apps.

Is it safe to use mod APKs and coin generators?

No, and none are official. A mod APK is an altered app copy from outside official stores. One look-alike of DramaBox calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators are also unofficial. You cannot check what they do. Stay with official stores and websites.

Why is ReelShort rated so low on Trustpilot?

On Trustpilot, ReelShort’s page shows 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Being charged after cancelling is a frequent complaint. Weekly auto-renewals are frequently mentioned. Other reviewers mention coin prices and refused refunds. Any review site reflects people who chose to post. Read it as a checklist rather than a verdict.
